They march across the long spread of pages somewhat chronologically and by type, with air transport at the top and water craft at the bottom. Occasional anomalies interrupt the flow; a train appears between a motorcycle and an automobile rather than up in the train line, for instance. Images are realistic in color and proportion with a fair amount of detail, given their small size, and they are labeled by name and year. The back side of the foldout contains brief bits of information on the vehicles over white silhouettes on blue background. Some small statements mention specific design or mechanical features. This book is amazing! It's a giant foldout on thick cardstock (not quite "hardcover" as it's listed, arranged in time-line fashion from early transportation to modern. Pictures on one side and corresponding text on the other, along with a fascinating list of 10 technologies that changed transportation. I got it from the school library and loved it so much I got a copy for the classroom, and a crowd always gathers around whomever is reading it! (I teach 2nd and 3rd graders) I've become convinced that well-organized, well-presented and engaging material is more important to getting kids interested in nonfiction reading than anything else, and this book definitely fits the bill. this book does have to be folded up in a certain way, so it goes on the special shelf with popups and other easy-to-mangle books. probably not for kids much younger than 2nd, either content or care-wise, but older kids, even adults will like it.

On one side you'll find detailed illustrations of planes, trains, autos, etc. and on the reverse side is a little information about each design. If you are interested in the evolution of transportation and the designs of cutting edge vehicles, trains, planes, bikes and ships then you'll want to display this fold out someplace in your home, office, or classroom.Offering a feast for the eyes there's so much to take in here you'll spend quite a bit of time taking it all in. Also notice how the author/illustrator arranges his work by time periods as well as types of transportation. This may be aimed at a young audience but many adults will love this book too.Book provided by publisher.
