I'm novice level with watercolor, intermediate with acrylic and oil (latter I took a formal class of for a year) myself....all these points are great to help learn more about each medium. As similar as they can be at times, they each have unique quirks. Dawn also gives calm, but firm advice for those who may be intimidated by the medium, or just art in general, making the guides even more enjoyable to read.
Not worth the price of $7.99. There is not one photo in the whole book to illustrate anything. I would rather spend a few dollars more and get a full size book with illustrations. I would not buy again. I would not recommend. I will give this one away as it is not worth keeping in my library.

This book is a great crash course in painting. I liked the emphasis on personalization, encouraging the reader to find his/her unique approach to painting. My favorite part was the elaborate explanation about the science of colors. Read and let your inner artist out!
I have taken classes on painting and know quite a bit on this issue. I read this book and found it very accurate on all the methods, materials, tools used for this great painting adventure.
Pictures are worth a thousand words, and if you don't count the covers: 0 words. Books on painting are not places to be speechless.

A fantastic book for gaining insight into Dawn Underwood's painting methods. As an art historian, I've spent years learning the academic facts about the Impressionists, but never picked up a brush until a few years ago. If you're like me, you don't really expect to paint exactly like Dawn Underwood, but this book just walks you through a number of the artist's better-known works and guides you to create a painting exploring the key techniques. If you do all the exercises in the book, you will certainly gain an enhanced appreciation of painting with color and light. I wish my art history professors had offered us an afternoon with brush and canvas instead of just slides and books. This book would be invaluable for teachers, and it would also make a great gift for anyone interested in learning more about the process of making art.
