This book was so much fun to work on! I really tried to find a way to make the designs truly Celtic mandalas. I looked over so many examples out there before beginning this book, and many had either really bad Celtic art (poor interlacing and incorrect overs and under etc), or else they didn't really follow the traditional mandala format. So I wanted to take the time to make each and every design in this book a great example of a Celtic mandala, where the different elements will showcase the patterns in the design and the colour you choose to colour it in. I enjoy Celtic-inspired coloring books and was looking forward to receiving this one after pre-ordering it sight unseen. While it is a little more intricate than I had expected, I still enjoy coloring in it. The mandalas incorporate many Celtic emblems and symbols. Because of the intricate detail (small areas to color on most designs), it is not a book I would recommend to anyone with vision or fine motor issues.The coloring book is the standard size for Creative Haven and the designs are circular. That makes for empty space both at the top and bottom of the design. If I decide to frame a finished project or mount it on a card for a gift, I'll use a paper cutter to cleanly remove the empty space.I noticed that the feel of the paper is slightly smoother than some of the Creative Haven books I have received recently. I've noticed that the paper seems to change quite frequently on these books. Because of that, if you buy one of these books, it may be slightly smooth or slightly rough depending on when and where it was printed. Colored pencils still work well with the slightly smoother paper (see below.)This is what I experienced while coloring in this book and testing the paper with my coloring medium.31 Celtic-inspired mandala designs in a circular formatThe designs are printed one side of the pagePaper is the usual Creative Haven quality: white, medium weight, slightly smooth and has perforated pages.Glue Binding but with perforated pages so removing a page is fairly simple.The designs stop well before the perforations with lots of empty space above and below the mandalasAlcohol-based markers bleed through this paperWater-based markers bleed through in spots and show colorful shadows on the back of the pageGel pens and India ink pens leave shadows of color on the back of the page. India ink pens can bleed through when I apply more than one layer of ink.Coloring pencils work well with this paper. I was able to get good pigment (color) lay down, layer the same color and multiple colors and to blend easily using a pencil style blender. I tested both oil and wax-based pencils with similar results. Hard lead pencils, like Verithins, leave dents on the back of the page.I suggest either removing pages from the book to color or using a blotter page under your working page. I like card stock as it keeps ink from seeping through and damaging the pages below.
These celtic inspired mandalas are simply gorgeous! The book is printed single sided on decent quality paper, and it is perforated for easy removal. The designs are fairly complex with some very tiny details. I would only recommend this book for more advanced colorists. I also wish the book was printed in a more square format to avoid so much empty white space at the top and bottom of each page.
I've purchased many (50-75) coloring books in the past five years, and this one is excellent!!... the paper is the smoothest I've ever colored on!!!... the lines are crisp and clear... the color is exactly what color is supposed to be (no splotchiness, no dark spots)... I'm in love with this book and I'm so excited I bought two of them... I will color the second one completely different than the first one!!!... seriously, but this one... you will not regret it!!!... and Creative Haven are my all time favorite coloring books... I have all of them, but this one, the quality is exceptional... it's like they are getting better and better, instead of passing off cheap junk because they kniw we'll buy it... thank you, Creative Haven, for this one... I love it!!!
To the artist Cari Buziak, I absolutely love this book. Most of the time I feel ripped off with most books that I order. They are very cheap looking and terrible. Most of the time I just throw them in the trash. I loved your book so much that I have bought three of them at Walmart and I have ordered an additional six books from Amazon. Thanks for putting in the effort to make your work fun to color.
If you enjoy intricate patterns this book is for you! This book is filled with beautiful celtic patterns done one per page on perferated paper. I love the intricate patterns..challenging but not overwhelming. I say perfect!
I absolutely LOVE Creative Haven! The paper is the perfect weight and the are perforated. I prefer removing the page I am working on to make it easier to color. The mandalas are intricate and enjoyable, I find it is such a wonderful way to relax. No matter the subject you can never go wrong with any of the Creative Haven coloring books.
It's a Creative Haven adult coloring book. They're hours of fun. Perforated page so you can remove it to color. Picture on one side. Nice paper. Can use color pencils, gel pens & markers. Markers will bleed through. Creative Haven coloring books never disappoint.
I am currently coloring my first selection. The mandalas are stunning! I love the designs. I am using shading of hues and it looks beautiful. I do have to keep sharp points on my pencils because a lot of the areas are narrow.
